Job Description

This position is located in Knoxville, TN


Position is responsible for leading payroll and clinician compensation staff and activities to ensure accurate and timely payments to clinician. Actively promotes continuous improvement efforts, exemplifies metric-driven, results-oriented leadership and values development of business partnerships with other departments to serve clinicians and the organization in the most effective and efficient manner.


  • Develops credibility and dependability for the payroll and clinician compensation group by managing the functions appropriately to provide timely and accurate payroll payments, reporting, analysis and trending.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates related processes and results for solid, consistent performance by the department.
  • Leads and participates in the development of the organization’s plans and programs as a strategic partner related to upstream and downstream activities
  • Evaluates and recommends strategies and programs for short-term and long-term success of clinician payroll and compensation, including technology and regulatory compliance.
  • Supports accounting/finance teams for close, projections and budget activities.
  • Oversees the enhancement, development and implementation of policies/policies and technology to support adequate controls, operational effectiveness and clinician satisfaction.
  • Demonstrates and coaches direct reports to develop the ability to offer innovative ideas toward business opportunities and solutions to business challenges.
  • Understands tasks and processes related to accruals, contract interpretation for compensation, compensation formulation, RVU plans, post payroll error corrections, Sox audit requirements, annual tax reporting for independent contractors, etc.
  • Gains software system knowledge to leverage and increase automation’s impact for effectiveness and efficiencies.
  • Proves to be an action-oriented professional with a “can do” attitude, hands on leadership style, and servant leader focus.
  • Leads by example and influences others without direct authority.
  • Highly self-motivated, energetic leader with an internal sense of direction that demonstrates initiative and achieves results within a team environment.

  • Demonstrates strong interviewing, hiring, orientation and management skills and processes to recruit and retain high performing payroll/clinician compensation staff and leaders.
  • Performs other related duties as requested by senior management.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Management or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Seven (7) - ten (10) years of related experience - including five (5) years or more of managerial experience (prefer demonstrated experience with complex compensation structures);
  • Excellent leadership and facilitation skills with the ability to lead and participate in cross functional teams
  • Ability to interact, communicate and influence senior management, physicians, and colleagues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to negotiate win-win situations
  • Advanced proficiency in various computer applications, i.e. word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, database management and presentation software.
  • Ability to handle stress and conflict
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication skills – oral, written, presentation, and public speaking


  • Supervises Payroll / Clinician Compensation leaders and staff


  • Job performed in modern office setting;

This position may require manual dexterity and/or frequent use of the computer, telephone, office machines (copier, scanner, fax) and/or the ability to perform repetitive motions and/or meet production standards to comply with the essential functions. Also, may require physical and/or mental stamina to work overtime, additional hours beyond a regular schedule and/or more than five days per week.
