Job Description


The position of a TeamHealth Scheduler has the responsibility for scheduling all Physicians/Mid-Level Practitioners in the emergency department.  This includes obtaining scheduling dates from physicians/MLPs and assisting the physicians in solving their scheduling problems.


  • Obtains scheduling availability for physicians and mid-level providers of designated hospitals to ensure the preparation of Physician/MLP schedules for the respective emergency departments. This involves sending monthly reminder notices, and entering requests into scheduling program as needed.  
  • Utilizing scheduling program and working with other team members, creates monthly schedules for Physician and/or MLP’s for assigned emergency departments. This work involves meeting a monthly deadline of completing schedules within 14 business days from receipt of scheduling availability.  This work may involve working evening hours and weekends. 
  • Communicates with all credentialed Physicians/MLPs at each facility to ensure that all shifts are covered, including coverage for all unforeseen emergencies.
  • Assists in all schedule change requests for Physicians/MLPS of designated hospitals.
  • Enters scheduling data into Tangier, including any changes or corrections to the schedule as deemed necessary.
  • Alternates on-call responsibilities with other members of the Scheduling department. This includes a 24-hour on-call period that is scheduled regularly including weekends and holidays.
  • Schedules all orientations for physicians and mid-level providers including EMR training, shadow shifts, and ED Clinical orientation. This will involve working with a medical staff and/or representative of Information Technology for contracted hospitals.    Ensures physicians and mid-levels providers know where to park, how to obtain their ID badge, and billing number prior to first shift.
  • Maintains annual holiday grids to include entering all shifts worked for the year prior.
  • Updates Tangier to reflect dates and times of RMD monthly meeting, ED Cabinet, Leadership, and ED Departmental meetings.
  • Maintain Support Call usage spreadsheet.
  • Communicates effectively as needed with the team and other members of Physician Services
  • Completes all other tasks and assignments as delegated by the VPO
  • Participates in an integrated work team as a responsible team member.
  • Assists in the facilitation of the team process at TeamHealth by serving as an active member of Team West. This includes attending all team related meetings; participating in developing and implementing center wide and team goals; participating in problem-solving and decision making; supporting corporate and center management decisions; being flexible and adaptable to change; establishing trust and respect for other team members; placing team needs first; and by completing all necessary training.
  • Follows the norms and guidelines established by the team for communication, production, efficiency, conflict resolution, decision-making, problem-solving, and interpersonal relations.


Job Requirements


  • Two (2) or more years of college or equivalent education;
  • One (1) to three (3) years of related experience, preferably in a medical setting working closely with physicians;
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel applications;
  • Exceptional negotiation and persuasion skills;
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Excellent problem-solving skills;
  • Good computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, database management;
  • Ability to work well with deadlines and stressful situations;
  • Ability to think creatively within a short time-frame;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule;
  • Ability to adapt to change; and
  • Ability to work in a team setting.

This position may require manual dexterity and/or frequent use of the computer, telephone, 10-key, calculator, office machines (copier, scanner, fax), and/or the ability to perform repetitive motions and/or meet production standards to comply with the essential functions.  Also, may require physical and/or mental stamina to work overtime, additional hours beyond a regular schedule and/or more than five days per week.
