JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:

The Trainer is responsible for overseeing all training and education for the Coding department staff.  Insures all coders are familiar with Team Health coding criteria as defined in the Coding Policies and Procedures manual, corporate policies, and Billing Center policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train all new employees in accordance with the departmental 12-week training program.
  • Responsible for the one-on-one review of the policies and procedure manual for all new hires. Conduct initial introduction for all new employees.
  • Prepare individual written report for each audit to the manager identifying and communicating potential quality issues.
  • Assist coding training Seniors with new employee training audits.
  • Educate the coding department on any policy updates or changes.
  • Conduct monthly educational meetings with the coding department.
  • Work closely with level 1 and level 2 reviewers and monitor all QAs.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

 

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficiency in ICD-10 diagnostic coding and CPT procedural coding.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, regulatory requirements, and physician billing and reimbursement.
  • Effective organizational, analytical, and communication skills at all levels.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, experience in physician coding and billing related field.
  • RHIT, CPC and/or CCS-p certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years in a work leader or senior/leadership position.
  • 2-4 years of previous medical coding experience, acute care coding preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

  • High production volume, fast-paced working environment;
  • Mandatory overtime as directed by Management;
  • Regular and predictable onsite attendance;
  • High level of interaction and teamwork.
