Job Description


The Staff Accountant III position is primarily responsible for the books and records for their assigned contracts. This would include the monthly activities necessary to close the books in a timely manner, review of payrolls, accounts payable and accounts receivable during the month. Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, safe keeping of financial information, monthly projections, annual budgets and other projects deemed necessary.



  • Perform Monthly Closing Activities: Review journal entries provided by Corporate for accuracy and completeness. Produce standard monthly journal entries. Track all journal entries on the Journal Entry Checklist. Review financial information prior to close and create necessary journal entries to ensure the reasonableness of the financial statements. Analyzes and interprets monthly financial statements effectively and communicates results to accounting manager.
  • Review of Payroll, Accounts Payable and Receivable: Review payrolls associated with the assigned contracts for the accuracy of payroll payment information in a timely manner (24 hours or less). Review month end AP accruals and determine if other operating expenses need to be accrued.
  • Month End and Year End Schedules:   Monthly updates and/or creates a schedule for each balance sheet account with a balance. Tie the schedule to a lead sheet that ties to the Corporate Financial Statements.
  • Preparation of annual budgets and monthly projections: Work closely with operations to determine any contract changes in order to adjust financial projections on a monthly basis.
  • Preparation of Proformas: Calculate Financial Results in order to emphasize either current or projected figures for facilities.
  • Preparation of necessary data and information to produce annual corporate budgets as well as explaining variances to budgets as they occur throughout the year.
  • The ability to read and interpret contracts for financial soundness.
  • Evaluate work received for technical accuracy and conformity to departmental standards.
  • Communicate areas of inefficiencies with a proposed solution to management.

Provide assistance to other employees and personnel as relating to function.

Job Requirements



  • Working knowledge of Lawson, Hyperion Essbase, Hyperion Financial Reporting and Hyperion Planning.
  • Excellent financial and operational analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to function efficiently in a high paced environment, in order to meet daily and monthly deadlines.
  • B.S. or B.A in Accounting required.

Minimum 5 years experience in a Staff Accountant Role.
