Job Description

Position Summary

The Learning Consultant (LC) serves as an instructional design expert managing the learning design process from initial consultation through solution implementation. The LC consults with stakeholders in the creation of learning solutions and strategies (e-learning, VILT, blended, etc.) for the enterprise-wide organization. The learning solutions may cover a variety of subjects/priorities, including but not limited to, new employee onboarding, leadership and professional development, compliance, job/department specific requirements, product and services, and software systems. This role will incorporate sound principles of instructional design, eLearning development, adult learning theory and strategies for interaction, as well as organization standards, into every intervention ensuring successful acquisition, retention and transfer of knowledge, skills and abilities. The LC will be responsible for managing multiple learning projects concurrently and representing Talent Development on enterprise-wide project teams.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilizes evidence-based principles associated with theories of how adults learn as a basis to execute systematic design processes (i.e. ADDIE or other industry accepted model) to analyze, design, develop and deliver targeted and sustainable learning solutions.
  • Partners with business and technical stakeholders to conduct needs analyses to gather and analyze information about the need, identify desired skills / performance standards and current gaps, target population, success measures for the role, and other requirements as defined by the intake process.
  • Works collaboratively with corporate, regional and other stakeholders in HR to achieve project goals.
  • Recommends, designs and develops targeted learning solutions including, but not limited to, eLearning, virtual instructor-led, classroom-based, train-the-trainer, and blended learning solutions.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of learning and non-learning interventions by identifying measures to track outcomes and ensure alignment with business objectives. Reports and communicates findings.
  • Effectively manages multiple projects to achieve project goals and meet deadlines.
  • Mentors other team members on instructional design and eLearning processes and tools.
  • Sustains continuous learning and growth mindset and models these behaviors by taking ownership of professional development and partnering with Manager to identify goals for growth.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging trends and research in the talent development and learning space
  • Completes administrative tasks (updating project plans, status reports, maintenance of learning solutions, pulling reports, etc.).


Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Highly proficient with eLearning authoring and multimedia tools (Articulate or equivalent; Camtasia or equivalent)
  • Visual design principles
  • Emotional intelligence skills and ability to interpret behaviors of others and adjust own behavior accordingly
  • Consultation and business partnering skills with ability to influence, negotiate, and facilitate
  • Self-directed with ability to manage own time and tasks
  • Project management skills
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint and Word

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience with emphasis in instructional design, instructional technology or adult education related discipline
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design or similar, preferred.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the instructional design of virtual instructor-led, e-learning, classroom-based, and blended learning solution in corporate training environments
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated use of adult learning theories
  • Full knowledge of systematic Instructional Design processes (i.e. ADDIE) and strategies for engaging learners
  • Knowledge of current and future instructional design technologies (to include e-learning, mobile learning, ILT, etc.) and trends in the talent development space
  • Demonstrated experience in partnering with business/organizational leaders to translate business objectives into effective learning solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve business objectives

Physical Requirements and Working conditions

  • Job performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting;
  • Occasional lifting/carrying (20 pounds or less);
  • Occasional standing/bending/stooping/reaching;
  • Occasional overnight travel;
  • Moderate stress;
  • Prolonged work on a computer/PC;

This position may require manual dexterity and/or frequent use of the computer, telephone, office machines (copier, scanner, fax) and/or the ability to perform repetitive motions and/or meet production standards to comply with the essential functions. Also, may require physical and/or mental stamina to work overtime, additional hours beyond a regular schedule and/or more than five days per week.
