Overview

The Coding Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the monthly level two coding reviews, chart review management application report generation and report distribution, and level three coding quality assurance reviews.

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review a minimum of 50 records per month (complete dates of services) coded by a randomly selected coder at each coding center for accurate coding of CPT-4 and ICD-9 codes
  • Review a randomly selected batch of records which were reviewed by level one and level two coding quality assurance reviewers at each billing center. These records are reviewed by the coding quality assurance coordinator. The outcome is compared to level one and level two coding quality assurance reviewer findings
  • Administer a coding examination to all coding managers, supervisors, and trainers at each coding center
  • Provide educational feedback to coders via the coding manager on the randomly selected coder’s results each month
  • Distribute quality assurance reports on a monthly basis
  • Distribute updated TeamHealth Coding Policy and Procedure Manuals
  • Coordinate monthly coding quality assurance reviews to ensure deadlines are met and reports are accurate
  • Conduct focused coding audits as requested
Qualifications / Experience
  • Thorough knowledge of CPT-4 and ICD-9 coding for both commercial and federal payers
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • High school graduate or its equivalent
  • Coding certification (CPC, CCS-P or RHIT/RHIA). If not already in possession, coding certification must be earned within one year of working in this position
  • Minimum of three years of previous professional services coding experience
