Overview

The Coding Training Senior is responsible for assisting with all training and education for the Coding department staff and new coding trainees. Ensures all coders and trainees are familiar with TeamHealth coding criteria as defined in the Coding Policies and Procedures manual, corporate policies, and Billing Center policies. Prepare new coders with understanding of policies and procedures to be successful in coding.

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure all policies (including updates/changes) are understood and being followed
  • Responsible for checking trainees completed work and providing feedback with explanation of critical and educational errors
  • Providing guidance to new employees while extending patience and understanding of various employee needs
  • Answer trainee questions in a timely manner
  • Assist trainees via Zoom for one-on-one training as needed
  • Train and assist new employees with basic coding duties such as maintaining production logs, logins, checking sheets, navigation of T drive, accessing Zenith, B2B links, Kronos, Outlook Email, HM Policy Manual, etc.
  • Train and assist on how to access facility EMR’s, explaining CCIS and navigation of the facilities EMR
  • Train and assist trainees with accessing OnBase Unity including the creation of incomplete, unbillable, returns to registration, and scrubbing of patient file
  • Assign trainees batches via OnBase Unity to their proper queues
  • Train and assist in all IDX functions
  • Monitor days in department on batches needing checked
  • Place trainees coding on hold in IDX and release batches in accordance with close dates
  • Prepare checking reports and other training documents to produce daily and weekly training totals on all trainees
  • Provide feedback in form of progress reports delivered to new employees
  • Recording all data onto spreadsheets regarding coder weekly production and error rate
  • Request charge corrections as they are needed
  • Communicate with IDX specialists to request additions (D3, D123)
  • Communicate with Provider Enrollment to verify and confirm providers are TeamHealth employed, their effective dates, locations, etc.
  • Communicate coding and documentation issues among departments
  • Communicate with production floor as needed for gathering additional information or seeking clarification pertinent to coding
  • Maintain all personal logins to all facilities
  • Communicate any issues identified to management
  • Other duties as assigned by management


Qualifications / Experience
  • Proficiency in ICD-10 diagnostic coding and CPT procedural coding
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, regulatory requirements, and physician billing and reimbursement
  • Effective organizational, analytical, and communication skills at all levels
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, experience in physician coding and billing related field
  • RHIT, CPC and/or CCS-p certification or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to lead and direct
  • Minimum 1-2 years of previous medical coding experience, acute care coding preferred
