JOB OVERVIEW:

The Coding Educational Manager is responsible for monitoring the training and the quality assurance process of the coding department to insure Team Health coding guidelines and standards are met.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS:

  • Directly manage the trainer, training senior, and the QA Reviewer
  • Directly oversee all employees in the initial 12 week training program
  • Complete the QA section of the employee yearly performance appraisals
  • Disciplinary Actions where related to QA performance

WORKFLOW MANAGEMENT:

  • Monitor weekly and daily progress notes on employees in training
  • Monitor completion and submission of weekly progress reports by each new hire and prepare Weekly progress report for AVP of Billing Operations
  • Monitor Schedule of Coding Trainer, Coding Training Senior, and Coding QA reviewer

POLICY  MANAGEMENT:

  • Insure updates to Contract Information Sheets, Revenue Center Listings, and Policy and Procedure manuals are distributed and reviewed by staff.
  • Maintain the Hospital Reference Book with current coding guidelines and maintenance of manuals, newsletters, reference materials, etc.
  • Conduct monthly education meetings with coders to cover any policy updates or review problematic areas on QA’s.

QA MANAGEMENT:

  • Establish and monitor production schedule for QA Reviewer and Training Senior
  • Conduct QA review meetings with coders
  • Insure audit reports are signed and returned by coders verifying all recommended changes were made.
  • Maintain responsibility for mailing requested batches to Level III auditors and reviewing and correcting charts upon return.

 

Job Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficiency in ICD-9 diagnostic coding and CPT procedural coding related to Anesthesia, Pain Management and ICU coding.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, regulatory requirements, and physician billing and reimbursement.  Knowledge of how to conduct payer research for coding policies and reimbursement guidelines.
  • Effective organizational, analytical, and communication (verbal and written) skills

  Education

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, S. or B.A. preferred, or equivalent of management/supervisory experience in physician billing related field.
  • CPC or RHIT Certification
  • CANPC Certification preferred.

 Experience

  • 2-4 years in a work leader, auditor, or supervisory position
  • 2-4 years previous Anesthesia coding experience, multi-specialty coding experience preferred with emphasis on E&M codes for Outpatient Office, Inpatient and Critical Care.
