ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

The Chief CRNA is responsible for the management of nurse anesthesia services in collaboration with the Facility Medical Director, Vice President of Operations, Practice Manager/Coordinator and Hospital Administration.  Under the direction of the FMD, the Chief CRNA:

 

  • Works collaboratively with Hospital Administrative team, Director of Surgical Services, Operating Room Nurse Manager for CRNA daily work flow. As the primary CRNA/AA resource manager you should work closely with the Anesthesiologist–on-Duty (AOD) and the nurse manager every day to facilitate daily and monthly OR staffing needs including off site locations, anticipating needs in advance to optimize utilization and efficiency.

 

  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with the above persons to promote team-building, consensus building, improve departmental efficiencies, improve quality, reduce costs, and resolve conflicts in a positive manner. Serve as a valuable resource and communicate effectively with the above individuals and others

 

  • Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, selecting and hiring of qualified CRNA’s. Coordinate orientation of all new staff members prior to clinical assignments.

 

  • Schedule and meet regularly with entire team to discuss operational and quality issues; review policies and create/revise policies as needed. Provide educational opportunities and discuss equipment and supplies needed to optimize patient care

 

  • Contributes to planning goals and objectives for the department and assists FMD in coordination of activities and programs

 

  • Counsels and evaluates crna staff performance and partners with FMD and Human Resources in managing performance deficiencies

 

  • Develops and maintains quality improvement programs for anesthesia in cooperation with hospital programs

 

  • Maintains compliance with regulatory agency requirements

 

  • Represents nurse anesthesia at hospital conferences and committee functions

 

  • Follows hospital policy on security of controlled substances

 

  • Performs all aspects of clinical anesthesia administration as scheduled

 

  • Provides clinical services as a nurse anesthetist consistent with the duties, responsibilities and scope of practice of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

 

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE  

 

  • Holds current state licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Florida and complies with any applicable state statutory or regulatory requirements concerning advanced practice registered nursing
  • Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor
  • Complies with one of the following requirements regarding certification eligibility, initial certification, or recertification:
    Is currently certified by the Council on Certification of Nurses Anesthetists or its predecessor; or 
    b.  Is currently recertified by the Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Maintains active BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications as required by the facility
  • Insurable by an appropriate medical malpractice insurer for the limits required by this institution or state
  • Demonstrates current competency in the clinical responsibilities outlined above

 

PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

 

  • Position performed in a clinical healthcare setting with frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens
  • Requires frequent to constant hand movement, including repetitive motions, grasping, holding and significant manual & finger dexterity
  • Requires excellent hand-eye coordination, corrected vision and hearing to normal range
  • Occasional pushing, pulling and/or lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Frequent standing and walking for extensive periods of time
  • Frequent bending , stooping
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and the ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekend and holidays as necessary
