Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the Medical Director, this position functions to verify insurance benefits, seeks authorizations for medical services, answering phone calls, prepares billing packages, as well as updating incomplete billing logs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handle insurance benefit verification process (phone calls and online)
  • Write medical necessity using established forms and procedures
  • Handle pre and post-authorization process for office procedures, injections, trials, and other required visits
  • Ensure/analyze an efficient flow of work utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR) software to keep track of task and relevant patient information
  • Facilitate the collection of accurate patient demographic and insurance information
  • Use quality control techniques to ensure that correct billing information is collected
  • Handle insurance calls
  • Provide excellent customer service including problem solving, timely follow-up, assisting in answering phones and scheduling appointments
  • Respond to patients, insurance companies, referring physicians, and all levels of staff on items requested
  • Give input on the creation of training materials, as necessary
  • Ensure all necessary referrals are obtained for clinic appointments
  • Create and maintain necessary spreadsheets for tracking and reporting purposes
  • Protects patient confidentiality by making sure protected health information is secured by not leaving PHI in plain sight and logging off the computer before leaving it unattended
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to travel to all clinic locations, in the Tampa Bay Area, on a regular basis; must have reliable transportation
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and related medical processes
  • Ability to communication to patients, physicians and other staff with professional courtesy and respect
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Good proficiency in use of Microsoft Office products, specifically Word and Excel and other data entry related software
  • Good customer service skills, presents a positive and professional image
  • Requires being sensitive to others' needs and feelings and being understanding and helpful on the job
  • Exemplify team player attitude

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  • Healthcare/Clinical front desk experience, required
  • Supervisory/management experience, preferred
  • Bi-lingual, preferred

PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

 

Primarily in a clinical office with computers, printers and office traffic that requires the ability to work efficiently with moderate noise disruptions. May be possibly exposed to blood borne pathogens or chemicals
