JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:

The Allowables Representative is responsible for identifying, researching and resolution of invoices that have allowable variance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Runs and reviews variance reports (daily, weekly, monthly and on-demand) to identify carriers with allowable issues.
  • Research invoices with allowable issues including review of EOB, posting, FSC appropriateness, product information and then appealing underallowed invoices with the carrier via an appropriate method for the invoices involved.
  • Timely follow up with carriers and monitoring progress of appeals
  • Reviews variance reports and promptly reports to Allowable Manager any noted trends.
  • Runs reports as needed for research.
  • Routinely reviews Underallowed Monthly agings reports and adjusts priorities as needed.           
  • Routinely review Managed Care/Contract Management meeting notes.      
  • Consults with Allowables Manager for unusual circumstances that may include system data issues, payer esponses, managed care or contract maintenance issues.
  • Answer phone calls from carriers with questions regarding Contracted Payor Notification letters.
  • Performs all duties as directed by management.
  • Knowledge of physician billing policies and procedures beneficial
  • Computer literate, Excel and Word experience preferred
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Able to work independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of CPT medical coding guidelines preferred.

 

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum high school diploma, or equivalent. Additional training in medical billing preferred.
  • One year medical billing experience.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: 

Set in a pleasant, high-volume, fast-paced office environment. Ability to meet closing deadlines and production standards is required. Involves extensive computer use.

This position may require manual dexterity and/or frequent use of the computer, telephone, 10-key, calculator, office machines (copier, scanner, fax) and/or the ability to perform repetitive motions and/or meet production standards to comply with the essential functions. Also, may require physical and/or mental stamina to work overtime, additional hours beyond a regular schedule and/or more than five days per week.
