Overview

The Senior Software Engineer will join our RSS Billing Software Engineering team. The role will be instrumental in collaborating and actively working with the scrum team supporting our business requests. The position is a backfill for a high impact role and will help maintain continuity on existing projects while contributing to any features development along with keeping a focus on better programming practices for the future.

MUMPS experience @ expert level is required for this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Hands on programming with the scrum team on existing platform code for enhancements, production issues and projects
  • Collaborate with Product Owner and other engineers within Scrum team to understand
  • requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Review code, collaborate and mentor other engineers and foster best practices in software engineering
  • Adopt and Learn Athena IDX environment along with legacy programming integrations built using MUMPS
  • Work on interfaces development between MUMPS and integrated systems using HL7, FTP. API calls or other solutions
  • Take ownership of key components of the programming requests and drive them through the
  • entire software development lifecycle
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across all types of requests
  • Ensure proper documentation for all programs and concepts developed
  • Participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the team’s engineering tasks and tools
  • Focus and deliver quality output based on the requirements established by business
  • Follow secure programming practices and comply with all organization wide secure and data
  • protection guidelines
  • Ensure proper documentation of existing and new code, logic along with system design

Job Requirements:

Technical Skills
  • Expert in the MUMPS (Massachusetts General Hospital Utility Multi Programming System)
  • programming language using Intersystem IRIS, Cache Object Script
  • Solid understanding of MUMPS database structures and transaction handling
  • Familiar with IDX applications (BAR/TES/EDI).
    Ability to research and explain code behind these applications
  • Familiar with HL7 messaging standards, data parsing and interfacing tools
  • Comfortable using the Linux environment and system commands
  • Agile software lifecycle knowledge or experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of object-oriented programming concepts and principles and ability to coach and mentor less experienced engineers in these concepts
  • High level of expertise in configuration management tools, code repository, branching
  • Familiar with a RDBMS systems
  • Working knowledge or API integrations and building them if required
  • Understanding of better coding and design standards
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills
  • Experience working with at least one Healthcare IT systems eg.
    Athena IDX, EPIC or any other systems highly preferred
