JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:

This position is responsible for maintaining accuracy and production for the department, overseeing daily functions of employees and training of department staff. The senior position provides leadership and guidance to Patient Accounts representatives, monitors quality assurance and reports daily posting progress to the supervisor. The department’s goal is to post guarantor and carrier payments via ERA/manual.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures accurate completion of daily deposits and lockbox image rejection files.
  • Participates in unit progress meetings.
  • Participates in meetings with Patient Accounts Supervisor for production goals and progress updates.
  • Reports any errors or problems that affects payments or adjustments from being applied to the service(s) correctly.
  • Informs the supervisor of unusual circumstances and/or discrepancies that may include recoups, adjustments, fee schedules, rejections, etc.
  • Reports performance and workload of Patient Accounts Department to Patient Accounts Supervisor.
  • Conducts training of new employees.
  • Completes tasks accurately, maintaining quality standards as well as completing quarterly quality assurance reviews on the Patient Accounts Representatives.
  • Corrects Patient Accounts errors when necessary to ensure accuracy of patients’ invoices.
  • Complies with mandatory overtime requirements at the direction of the Patient Accounts Supervisor.
  • Performs other duties and assignments as requested.

This position may require manual dexterity and/or frequent use of the computer, telephone, 10-key, calculator, office machines (copier, scanner, fax) and/or the ability to perform repetitive motions and/or meet production standards to comply with the essential functions. Also, may require physical and/or mental stamina to work overtime, additional hours beyond a regular schedule and/or more than five days per week.

 

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent required
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of third party payer reimbursement required.
  3. One-year medical billing experience with IDX-BAR system preferred.
  4. Additional training in medical billing and cash applications a plus.
  5. Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) proficient.
  6. Accurate typing 40-45 WPM and 10-keystrokes.
  7. Must be detail-oriented with good follow-up and organizational skills.
  8. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  9. Able to work in fast-paced environment.
