Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:

The Registered Nurse coordinates and participates in a variety of supportive patient care activities to assist medical personnel in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the Immediate Care Facilities; administers medications and special nursing care techniques prescribed for patients.  Performs all clinician orders in a timely and accurate manner adhering to all regulatory requirements. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represents Immediate Care by displaying a respectful and caring manner with patients and their families. Independently problem solves and utilizes resources to obtain patient information when patient is unable to communicate.  Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Coordinates and participates in a variety of patient care activities in the examination and treatment of patients to include: vital signs, blood draws, medication administration, mini-mental assessments, assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, using standard equipment; records data for medical record.
  • Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies, instruments and equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Confers with patient to obtain accurate information for records, explains procedures, ally fears and elicit cooperation; ensure completion of chart information prior to examination by physician or extender. Assists in completion of insurance/compensation/disability forms.(change to provider and possibly eliminate the forms statement)
  • Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition; set up, clean and disinfect examination rooms; monitor and ensure appropriate inventory of medical supplies in examination rooms; replenish as required.
  • Evaluate patient care with emphasis on patient response; monitors providers’ plan of care from patient assessments, medical record and other record information; maintains liaison with physicians and practice administration to ensure efficient and effective patient care services.
  • Escort and/or transport patients to examination room and other clinic locations.
  • Complies with quality assurance, HIPAA, customer focus, infection control, safety and other policies as set forth.
  • Ensures adequate and appropriate patient follow-up regarding prescriptions, referrals and diagnostic testing. Contributes to patient care through patient and family education, distributing resource literature and community service recommendations and referrals as needed.
  • Supports the organizational goal in maintaining the standards set forth by Administration in connection with the maintenance of the accreditation.
  • Interacts calmly, respectfully and in a friendly manner with other representatives of services at Immediate Care. Refers patients to proper resources for Immediate Care policies such as billing support.  Assists in clerical duties as needed, functioning as a member of the health care team. 
  • Delegates various levels of patient care assignments to health care team to provide highest level of service to patients and community.
  • Performs various laboratory testing, daily controls and additional duties as needed.
  • Participate in development and implementation of general policies and procedures to provide for the physical and emotional comfort and safety of patients. Maintains competence through continuing education and in-service training.
  • Supports management and administration by performing as a supervisor in the physical absence of a Site Administrator.
  • Other duties as assigned and requested by management.
  • Attendance and being on time, ready to work your scheduled hours is an essential job requirement.

 

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program and a Registered Nurse in the State of New York
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent acute care experience preferred, experience in Emergency Room or Urgent Care Setting a plus.
  • Proficiency in IV skills at all age groups
  • Current BLS validation required
  • ACLS and PALS validation preferred or must be obtained within 6 months of employment
  • Ability to triage patient problems appropriately
  • Patient assessment skills
  • High degree of verbal communication and interpersonal skills to determine needs, provide information, instruct, and provide emotional support.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of general office equipment including fax and copy machines, multi-line phone system, and personal computer
  • Ability to address and resolve conflict in a professional manner
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Moderate physical effort, including assistance to the disabled patient in transfers to and from wheelchairs, exam tables, etc.

This position may require manual dexterity and/or frequent use of the computer, telephone, 10-key, calculator, office machines (copier, scanner, fax) and/or the ability to perform repetitive motions and/or meet production standards to comply with the essential functions. Also, may require physical and/or mental stamina to work overtime, additional hours beyond a regular schedule and/or more than five days per week.
