Job Description


The Medical Scribe transcribes medical information as dictated/requested by the supervising Clinician and presents the draft of the medical visit note for review, edits, and signature.  Other office duties such as assistance with communications and documentation may be needed. 

Expectation from the Medical Scribe is to reduce paperwork and other non-clinical duties of the supervising Clinician and assisting them to achieve higher efficiency in direct patient care.  The assigned responsibilities may vary with the type of practice and the needs of the supervising Clinician and facility.  Medical Scribe is expected to be flexible with work flow/assigned duties if change is needed.

The Medical Scribe carries out his/her duties by adhering to the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct, acts in the best interest of the patient and the medical team.  The Medical Scribe shall comply with HIPAA requirements and company policies by protecting sensitive and confidential patient information as required by laws and company policies.

A Medical Scribe may not evaluate a patient, make comments about a patient’s medical condition, give medical advice, or act as an intermediary between licensed health care workers by conveying clinical information verbally. 

Immersed in constant communication with the supervising Clinician, Medical Scribe will have the opportunity to learn vast medical information in a relative short period of the time for personal and professional growth.   Experience in this position is likely to satisfy most “prior experience in a health care setting” requirements for future health care career goals.  Medical Scribe will have first-hand experience in the healthcare environment with direct exposure to provision of healthcare services.


  • As directed and dictated by Clinician prepares visit notes and presents to the Clinician for review, edit, and signature.


  • Manages Clinician’s census, and audits for accuracy


  • Assists with scheduling and tracking visits


  • Performs special assignments and other related tasks as directed by Clinician


  • Obtains medical information from the records, labs, other physicians’ offices and hospitals, as directed, for Clinician review, or inclusion in Clinician’s notes


Job Requirements


  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Medical Scribe in clinical setting, or, Medical Scribe certification
  • Computer skills
  • Minimum of High School Diploma required
  • Communication skills
