Job Description


Organizes, directs, sets performance standards and monitors the daily workflow and budget of the ETM Coding Rejection Department to help insure corporate goals and standards are met.  Insure quality coding consistent with CPT-4, ICD-10, HCPCS, corporate and governmental guidelines, rules and regulations.  Provide coding and documentation feedback to appropriate Team Health Affiliate staff.


  • Hire, train, lead and motivate staff.
  • Complete employee performance appraisals.
  • Maintain knowledge of Basepointe AR/denials leading to proper claims review and corrections related to coding.
  • Maintain current technical competence in physician coding and documentation.
  • Manage staff and procedures ensuring systems operate efficiently and that effective personnel relations are maintained.
  • Review all QA results with staff and continually strive to improve staff performance through education including dissemination of timely information to the staff.
  • Evaluate and refine systems to provide the most efficient and cost effective work flow within the ETM/Coding Rejections Department.
  • Provide assistance to Team Health Affiliate staff, Medical Directors and physicians relating to coding and documentation issues.
  • Develop long-range and short-range goals and objectives.
  • Prepare and monitor annual budget.
  • Inform the Assistant VP of Operations and/or the Director/Manager of Coding Production when obvious and inappropriate coding or documentation practices are evident which may affect relationships with clients, hospitals and payers.
  • Keep the Director/Manager of Coding Production updated on the status of workload.
  • Complete special projects/reports as requested by the Director/Manager of Coding Production.
  • Maintain a personal work schedule that allows her/him to be at work regularly and dependably.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures of ETM/Coding Rejections.
  • Coordinate the resolution of coding and documentation issues among departments.
  • Comply with mandatory overtime requirements at the direction of Management.
  • Assume other tasks, duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant VP of Operations and/or Director/Manager of Coding.


Job Requirements



  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communications skills. Excellent personal computer skills.  Must have the ability to deal with a variety of tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment and establish and orchestrate priorities while maintaining a professional composure.  Demonstrated sound judgment and leadership skills.  Knowledge of IDX-BAR preferred.


  • A Bachelor of Arts Degree in a health care related specialty or business administration with a proven record of academic excellence, preferred. Additional training in coding and medical documentation, preferred.   


  • Strong knowledge in Denials and AR.
  • A proven record of outstanding professional accomplishments in a medical, preferably emergency physician, coding environment. Ideal experience would include an excellent understanding of medical terminology, CPT-4, ICD-10 coding/documentation.
  • Three (3) or more years of management/supervisory experience, preferred.


  • Occasional trips to client billing areas relating to coding and documentation issues.


  • Oversee the daily operations of all ETM-Coding Staff, including directing and assigning work as needed for the most efficient means for completion of tasks.
  • Be able to assist other Coding Supervisors with overseeing all departmental staff.

Also, may require physical and/or mental stamina to work overtime, additional hours beyond a regular schedule and/or more than five days per week.
