Position Description

Title: Director, Health Information Exchange

Reports to:  Vice President, Enterprise IT
The Director, Health Information Exchange, leads and drives strategy across the enterprise to enhance capabilities for information and data exchange with our business partners.  Data requirements focus on information needed for effective billing, data analytics, and quality metrics.
The Director, Health Information Exchange, utilizes in-depth knowledge of healthcare information and technology to influence change and implement integrated solutions to enable exchange of clinical information to meet the above goals.
Essential Functions:

  • Consults with executive and senior leadership on data exchange strategy within the context of overall strategic objectives and broad policy.
  • Partners with executive and senior leadership in Medical Informatics, Operations, Strategic Accounts, and other organizations to develop strategic efforts to achieve goals related to data exchange with business partners.
  • Leads and partners with various teams (Health Information Exchange (HIE), Chart Capture Operations (CCO), Enterprise Content Management (ECM)), billing center leadership, and others to deliver on vision, roadmap, and improvement opportunities.
  • Oversees analysis of collected data/information and advises initiative owners on options, risks, cost versus benefits, and impacts on business processes, systems, providers, etc.
  • Engages frequently with internal and external business partners to obtain and share information for influencing decisions, selling concepts, and/or providing advice and counsel that impacts business objectives.
  • Understands and works to achieve strategic direction of impacted business areas and organizational goals.
  • Develops communications, alerts, and messaging for leadership.


Job Requirements

Required Work Experience:

  • 10+ years related work experience in Healthcare Information Exchange or equivalent combination of transferable experience and education.  Demonstrated understanding of healthcare software applications across hospital systems, health information technology standards, and barriers to health information technology exchange.
  • 5+ years leading strategic initiatives with experience driving results across multiple organizations.
  • 5+ years working experience in the implementation and management of information technology projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong presentation design skills using PowerPoint and other artifacts (charts, graphs).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile, and iterative environment.

Required Education:  Bachelor’s in HIM, other health-related field, or technology-related field or related equivalent education and work experience. A Masters in Health Administration is preferred.
Preferred Skill sets:  Expert working knowledge and understanding of EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, MediTech, etc.) and clinical data integrations via HL7, FHIR, and other standards.
