Overview
Organize, directs, sets performance standards and monitors the daily workflow of the HM Coding Department to help ensure corporate goals and standards are met. Ensure quality coding consistent with CPT-4, ICD-10, and HCPCS, as well as all corporate and governmental guidelines, rules and regulations. Provide coding and documentation feedback to appropriate TeamHealth Affiliate staff.

Provide coding and documentation feedback to appropriate TeamHealth Affiliate staff.
Essentials Duties and Responsibilities
- Hire, train, lead and motivate staff
- Complete employee performance appraisals
- Maintain current technical competence in physician coding and documentation
- Manage staff and procedures ensuring systems operate efficiently and effective personnel relations are maintained
- Disseminate timely coding and documentation communications to staff
- Evaluate and refine systems to provide the most efficient, cost effective and workable flow within the coding department
- Work with coders to meet production goals
- Provide assistance to Team Health Affiliate staff, Medical Directors and physicians relating to coding and documentation issues
- Develop long-range and short-range goals and objectives
- Inform the Coding Manager and the AVP of Operations when obvious and inappropriate coding or documentation practices are evident which may affect relationships with clients, hospitals and payers
- Communicate production updates to the Coding Manager appropriately
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures
- Coordinate the resolution of coding and documentation issues among departments
Qualifications / Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, regulatory requirements and physician billing and reimbursement
- Proficiency in ICD-10 diagnostic coding and CPT procedural coding
- RHIA, RHIT or CPC certification preferred
- Minimum two (2) years medical coding experience
- Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills
- Ability to travel if needed
